About the Program
The Master of Science in GIS for Environment and Development program, offered by the Department of Geography and Environment at Jahangirnagar University, is the first of its kind in Bangladesh, launched in 2016. The program is designed for students and professionals seeking advanced knowledge and expertise in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Remote Sensing, and spatial data analysis to address environmental and developmental challenges. The department, one of the earliest academic units at Jahangirnagar University, has a rich history of integrating modern, applied approaches in its curricula and research. It pioneered GIS education in Bangladesh by introducing the first academic course on GIS in 1987 and has played a crucial role in establishing GIS infrastructure and research collaborations. With strong international ties and contributions to organizations like ICIMOD, LGED, and CEGIS, the department remains at the forefront of geospatial education and research. The MS in GIS for Environment and Development program equips graduates with the skills required to work in government agencies, research institutions, and the private sector, fostering innovative solutions for environmental and developmental issues.
